In Washington State, the Washington State Patrol (WSP) operates the centralized Secure Automated Firearms E-Check (SAFE) system to process all firearm background checks. Buyers initiate the required check through a licensed dealer, who will submit your information to WSP via the SAFE FFL Portal. This cost is currently $33 plus tax, and we collect this on behalf of Washington state.
A transfer for a firearm, whether Person to Person or Shop to Person is $30 for the first item, $10 for each additional item.
A transfer for an NFA item is $50 each.
